TRMM VIRS Monthly Fire Product

The TRMM VIRS monthly active fire data set was produced by Louis
Giglio and Jacqueline Kendall of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
(Code 923 and Science Systems and Applications, Inc.) This monthly
fire product is a coarse-resolution (0.5° x 0.5°) summary of fire
activity derived from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM)
Visible and Infrared Scanner (VIRS). As a consequence of the TRMM
orbit, the data set covers the global area between latitudes 40°S and
40°N. Monthly products are available from January 1998 to August,
2004. The data will be updated every month throughout TRMM's life.
