13 September 2003: Aqua/MODIS mosaic registered at 1705-1710Z. Powerful Category 4 Hurricane Isabel getting a little better organized as it moved westward. Center of Isabel was located near 22.2N, 61.5W or about 405 miles northeast of
San Juan, Puerto Rico.
17 September 2003: Terra/MODIS mosaic registered at 1510-1520Z. The eyewall of Isabel where the strongest winds were estimated at 115 mph (Category 2) with gusts of 130 mph is located near 30.0N, 72.6W or about 55 miles south of
Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
18 September 2003: Terra/MODIS mosaic registered at 1555-1600Z. Isabel came ashore on September 18, 2003 much weaker (Category 2) with winds estimated at just under 100 mph with gusts of 120 mph, and the center of the hurricane was
located near 34.9N, 76.1W, south of Cape Hatteras along the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
