field experiments were designed to provide validation measurements for TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission) and for the enhancement of precipitation algorithms.

TEFLUN-A, focusing on east Texas, took place from April 1 to May 15, 1998.

TEFLUN-B, focusing on east Florida, took place from August 5 to September 25, 1998.

Aircraft and coincident satellite data gathered over a variety of precipitation systems within the experimental domain, along with surface-based measurements and computer models, provide a unique database for the validation of satellite algorithms and understanding of the tropical precipitation cycle.
